Volunteer with Career Closet

I see first-hand our clients’ hesitancy upon arrival, their surprise at the clothing selection in all sizes, their delight in the quality, and their personal pride in how the clothes look on them. And as they leave, shopping bag in hand, ready for the next step in their venture into the workforce, they share their heartfelt thanks and sometimes even hugs.”

Career Closet volunteer
The Career Closet at Briarcliff Congregational Church is staffed by dedicated volunteers who serve on a rotating schedule on selected Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Volunteers play an important role in helping women prepare for employment by creating a welcoming and supportive shopping experience, while also keeping the Career Closet organized, well-stocked, and ready to serve those in need.  Volunteer responsibilities include:

Client Days
Volunteers provide personalized support to clients by:
  • Helping select professional clothing and creating outfits that match each client's needs, style, and confidence.
  • Serving as a personal shopper and style consultant in a welcoming, encouraging environment.
  • Providing transportation to and from local train stations or bus stops when and if needed.

Donor Days
Volunteers help by:
  • Receiving and sorting donated clothing.
  • Organizing garments by season and size.
  • Arranging shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories so they are easily accessible for clients.

General Support
Volunteers may also:
  • Assist with fundraising events and donation drives.
  • Help build relationships within the garment industry, especially with manufacturers and retailers of plus-size women's clothing.
  • Recruit new volunteers and help spread awareness of the Career Closet's mission.
By volunteering at the Career Closet, you'll help women present themselves with confidence as they pursue employment opportunities and take important steps toward financial independence.
